Unit 30 P6
Intellectual Property is the creation of the mind, Meaning what you invent is yours for example designs and symbols. IP is protected in law this enables people to earn recognition and financial benefit from what they have created.
Copyright is when a person owns their creation of what they've invented through law. Meaning they have the right on how they would want their work to be used or copied. Also when people want to use this persons work they have to request permission otherwise they're breaking the law. When requesting to use someones work with Copyright the owner can usually ask for a sum of money to allow them to use it. Overall this law stops someone from copying their idea meaning they then as a company have time to develop and manufacture the idea.
If an image for example has no Copyright it is called Copyright Free this is when the image could be used by anyone who would want to use it.These types of images are using found on popular internet search engines for example Google.
When a photographer takes photos of people they have to get the person to sign a model release form. This form allows the photographer to use the image in any way they want. If the photo was used without permission the photographer would be breaking the law.
In education a student may need to use an image for a non commercial use this is allowed as the image is not used for any other purpose. However if the student needs a lot of their work or images they may need to request permission or state on their work the name of the copyright work they've used and the owner of the piece to save themselves from a heavy fine from copyright.
